Once inside this holy site, don’t forget to visit the neo-classical Sacred Heart Chapel
This neo-classical church was built in the eighteenth century. It comprises three naves; the long, wide central nave and the two smaller and narrower side naves, together forming the figure of the Latin cross.
In the interior, the high altar is dedicated to Our Lady of Bethlehem, patron saint of Old Real de Asientos, and after whom the parish is named.
The church boasts the oldest bell in the state, brought from Europe in the seventeenth century.
You can also see a 400-year-old articulated miraculous Christ figure, whose peculiarity is that it is made out of human parts, including skull, ribs and teeth.
