The history of the place dates back to 1765, when the priest don Pedro Rincón de Ortega donated the area to the monks of Our Lady of Mercy. They founded a college and an inn here, named La Encarnación. They also built a convent and a modest chapel. With the passing of time and natural population growth the chapel was too small, so with a great deal of effort and the generosity of the devoted, it was expanded in 1702.
The church is a blend of gothic and baroque styles; its interior is sober and at the altar there is a scene of Our Lady of the Rosary handing Saint Domingo the rosary.
The college, convent and church were run by the Mercedarian Order until 1859. However, in 1948, when the Dominican Fathers were the custodians, the name of the church was changed to The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary.
